The second grade students in Mrs. Werth's class have enjoyed many writing experiences this year. Student's are familiar with the writing process and in how to edit and revise their literary pieces. The children have written stories, fairy tales, letters and poetry this year. We have been saving all our final copies and we are hoping to have BOCES make each student in class a book of class stories and poems. We are so excited about this final book and have been looking forward to its since September. Here are some samples if student writing from Mrs. Werth's second grade class. Enjoy.

THE LITTLE LAND OF HORSES

Once there was a girl names Maria who had no family except for three horses. One of the horses was really a unicorn spirit.

The unicorn spirit horse flew away and Maria went to look for her. She found a path and followed it. As she walked down the path she felt something shake and it was her! Then she began to shirk. She felt like the Magic School bus kids. It made her feel silly. She looked up and saw her white spirit unicorn in the air. It neighed and led her to a pasture full of green grass. She was surprised to see one of her other horses there, but now it was as tiny as a toy horse!

Maria’s unicorn flew down to show her wings and her spiral purplish pink horn to Maria. The unicorn’s body turned the same color as its horn.

Maria caught her missing horse and headed for the path. As they walked down the path the horses were getting bigger and bigger, but Maria was turning into a horse!

When they got back home Maria stopped to get a drink from the pond. She saw herself and saw that she had become a horse. They all lived for a long time.

If you ever see a very small land it belongs to the little horses and the great white unicorn! The end!

THE PRINCESS

Long, long ago there was a castle. In that castle there lived a King, a Queen, a prince, and a princess who had a pet cat. On a hill not far from the castle lived a Devil. The Devil heard there was a princess in the city. He wanted to capture the princess. But there was a fairy. The fairy heard about what the Devil wanted to do. She made a plan to stop the Devil. The Devil had planned to go and find the castle and on the princesses 16th birthday he would bring her to his house. One day he found the castle but he was not ready to take her yet. So he let the pretty princess live in the castle. Now on the princesses 12th birthday the fairy took her to a little cottage. This cottage was a woodcutter’s cottage. The fairy did not use magic with her wand. When the princesses 16th birthday came the Devil came to the castle. He was surprised to see that he could not find the princess in the castle when he looked all over the castle! As he was walking down steps of a tall tower in the castle the King and Queen woke up! They woke up their son the prince. He stretched and he yawned. “What do you want?” he yawned. “Someone is here!” said the Queen. They all ran down the stairs and out to where the thrones are. “It’s the Devil!” said the prince. “Oh no!” shouted the Queen. “He came to look for the princess!” She started to cry. The prince ran up stairs to get dressed. He came down all dressed and ready to fight the Devil. But the Devil was gone when he came down. “Oh no mother he has gone to find the princess I was too late!” the prince said. “It’s ok we can go after him and find her first!” said the King. So off they went. Soon they came to a cottage. They opened the door and saw the fairy. “Good day” said the fairy.

“Fairy please we need you to come with us!”

“Why?”

“Because the Devil is coming to get the princess!”

“Ok.” said the fairy. “Princess, come with me and the guests ok?” the fairy said.

“Ok.” the princess said back. So the princess gets dressed and goes down stairs. “I’m ready.” she said from the back of them and off they went! They eat blueberries, huckleberries and blackberries. Behind one tree the Devil was watching them as they were walking the Devil grabbed the princess by the arm. “Help, Help!” she cried! They heard her cry and ran after her. But the Devil had her already tied up in his house. They ran and ran until they came to the Devil’s house. They stopped for a minute and then went on. As they went in the Queen started to cry. “What is the matter?” the prince asked. “I want my princess.” the Queen said back. “Oh.” the prince said. “Follow me.” said the prince. They all started to follow him. They went up to the door that was guarded by guards. “We want to speak to the Devil.” “May we?” the prince said to the guards. “Yes, you may.” said one guard. The other guard bowed. In they went. But they did not go to the Devil. They followed the Devil to where the princess was. She was all tied up in a cage. The fairy had her wand with her. She turned them into fairies, little fairies. So they could save the princess. “With our wands we can save the princess.” said the fairy. So in the cage they went. I will save the princess by taking off the chains on her legs and arms. Ok?” the fairy said. When they were out of the cage the fairy made the princess little so she could go out with them. When they were back at the castle the fairy went back to the Devil’s house to get rid of him. A few days later the prince and princess got married and had their own children. They all lived happily ever after.
