Afton, NY Afton is located in Chenango County along the Susquehanna River. It lies equidistant between the cities of Oneonta and Binghamton along the Interstate 88 corridor. With a population of 1800, the village is home to several growing production and service industries, but it is mainly a community of homes and neighbors who value the landscape and the opportunities for raising a family here. Afton features a thriving Historical Museum, public library, youth sports organization, and Chamber of Commerce. Anchoring the village are several churches, a resident health center, a full compliment of stores and restauants, as well as proximity to state and county parks. Central to the whole community is the school.
Afton Central School Since its beginnings in the 1800's, Afton School has built its reputation on tradition and innovation. As a Middle States Accredited institution, ACS maximizes the expertise of its staff and the resourcefulness of its community to meet New York State's challenging academic standards. ACS serves 800 K-12 students within a single structure that has grown over the years as a result of the community's educational priorities. An Elementary wing was completed in 1994, and our 2001 building project included a new auditorium, gymnasium, and library, as well as new and improved athletic fields. This commitment to programs and facilities is a reflection of the people who live and work here. A thriving Parent-Teacher Organization, Athletic Booster Clubs, sponsorship by SERTOMA International, and active participation in district and civic committees demonstrate that ongoing partnership. | ||||||||
