Afton Central School Adult & Continuing Education
Afton Adult Education offers free adult basic education and high school equivalency preparation classes at many locations throughout Delaware and Chenango counties. Classes are generally small in size and are taught by New York State certified teachers. Students are assessed in reading and math and then an individualized course of study is designed to meet the students needs. Students work at their own pace on materials provided by the program free of charge. The program may be joined at any time. Afton Adult Education also offers a home study GED preparation program known as GRASP (Give Ready Adults a Study Program). This program is available to students who are 21 years of age or older and who possess adequate reading skills to work independently. Students are first tested to assess reading and math levels. Then, appropriate materials are sent to the students home every two weeks. The students work in the review books on their own, at their own pace, and return completed assignments to the program every two weeks. The Community Education Program offers a variety of afternoon and evening programs for local adults. School facilities are made available for after-school use and instructors are provided. The Computer Lab has been an active site with programs such as Beginning and Intermediate Computer Instruction, Computer Graphics, AutoCAD (Computer Assisted Design) and others. The pool is also used for programs such as Lifeguard Training and Water Aerobics. Other programs such as Step Aerobics, Body Sculpting, and Painting are among the current classes being offered.
