Fourth grade students at ACS are meeting the English Language Arts and Social Studies Learning Standards through an exciting integrated thematic unit called "The Historical Past That Formed Our Nation."
An enabling grant of $820 from the Catskill Regional Teacher Center allowed teachers Karl Ludwig, Girard P. Matthews, Leslie McGraw, Nancy Phetteplace, and Diana Torta to receive funding for non-fiction books, writing folders, thesauruses, and other supplies.
Students presented their findings about the colonial period and the early development of our government to their classmates. They also wrote letters explaining the early structure of the government.
ACS provided a field trip to Albany where students toured the state capitol building and met assemblyman Clifford Crouch. Many students were able to ask Mr. Crouch questions about his job and how government works.
The results of this enabling grant helped prepare students for the fifth grade NYS Social Studies test they will be taking in the Fall. | | | |
