Afton Students to submit papers to Uzbekistan University

Two Afton students, James DeVona and James Nute, are to submit research papers on the unintended consequences of Franklin Roosevelt's economic program known as the New Deal, to the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Taskent, Uzbekistan.

The papers are to be read and reviewed by the First Vice-Rector of the University, Dr. Adkham Bekmuradov. Dr. Bekmuradov will then compare the students' theories with the unintended consequences that are occurring in his nation as the former Soviet republic undergoes a similar economic transition.

This opportunity was developed by Mr. Walls who studied in Uzbekistan this past summer on a Fullbright-Hayes grant.

The project was part of an independent course on economics taken by the two students.
