The United States navy is coming out with a new submersible vessel. This vessel ia an underwater submarine, the USS Virginia. The Virginia is being built in a shipyard in Quonset Park, Rhode Island. Unlike most submarines, the Virginia is being built in pieces and then being assembled. The first ship is scheduled to be completed in 2004.

Many times, subs are built to attack underwater targets. The USS Virginia is built to attack underwater and land targets. Its has 12 vertical missile launching tubes for land targets. This mighty vessel also has the best technology. Complete with Radio Rooms, Spec-op stations, electronic charts, its own mini sub, fresh water converter, touch screen displays and much more. This is why the Virginia is the leader in technology.

The Virginia is not the biggest or the fastest undersea ship, but it is high-tech. From the bow to the stern the submarine is 377 feet, from side to side it is 34 feet wide. At the front of the vessel is a sail to help stabilize the ship. On the stern of the Virginia there are 6 fins to also help stabilize the vessel. With all this technology the Virginia will be the leader in submarines.
