On Monday, December 8th, 2014 we will be holding a vote to purchase the property at 43 Caswell Street. The property runs from the dumpster near the village building to Caswell Street. It includes the red Morton building. Currently, students park in this area.
The purchase of this property is extremely important to the district. Without this property, there will be limited to no parking for students or for athletic events.
The proposal is for up to $45,000. The offer of $40,000 has been accepted by the Town of Afton, current owner of the property. The other $5,000 will cover the cost of the appraisal and environmental study. The appraisal found the property value to be $40,000. We also have completed an environmental study to make sure that there are no underground issues that may need to be addressed in the future. That study came back showing no issues. The building on the property would be used for storage of grounds equipment.
The money for this property will be taken from the fund balance and therefore, will have no impact on taxes.
