Elizabeth Briggs, Superintendent of Schools for the Afton Central School District has retired.
Elizabeth Briggs, Superintendent of Schools for the Afton Central School District has retired as of July 31, 2017. She announced her intentions to retire on June 15, 2017.

After 42 years of service in education, Betty, as those who know her call her, has decided to move on to the next phase of her life. Betty said, “I have been able to watch several generations of children become parents and some even grandparents over the years. It gives me great pride knowing I had a small part in their lives. It also makes me proud to have been able to lead the district that I graduated from many years ago!”

Betty started out as a teacher in Afton in 1975. In 1987, Betty travelled up the valley to accept a position as Director of Special Programs at Unatego Central School. In 1991, Betty returned to her alma mater as the Elementary Principal of Afton Central where she led for eleven years. In 2002, Betty was appointed as the Superintendent of Schools for the Afton Central School District where she has served for the past fifteen years.

Betty is excited about her retirement. She plans on traveling, camping, reading, cooking, and spending time with her family.

The Board of Education thanks Ms. Briggs for her decades of dedication and service to the students and district.
