A "Perpetual Motion" Machine

A "Perpetual Motion" Machine

Alex F., made this very simple homopolar motor as part of his investigation of Electromagnetism in Mrs. Livingston's Science Research class.  It is made of a AA battery, a neodymium magnet, a wire, and a nut.  This motor is often called a "Perpetual Motion" Machine, although in actuality, it is using the energy from the battery, and electric and magnetic fields to turn the wire.
